What P0430 usually means on a RAV4

P0430 only shows up on V6 RAV4s, since the fours have a single exhaust bank. It signals that the bank 2 (rear) catalytic converter has fallen below the efficiency the ECU expects. As with the front-bank P0420, it's normally an aging original converter or a slow rear O2 sensor rather than a sudden failure. The rear converter sits against the firewall, which makes it the harder of the two to diagnose and service.

    The V6 RAV4's rear cat loses efficiency with age and heat cycles just like the front.

  2. Aged bank 2 O2 sensor
