What P0300 usually means on a RAV4

P0300 on a RAV4 is a random or multi-cylinder misfire the ECU can't tie to one cylinder. On older models the usual causes are worn plugs and aging coils. On the 2019-and-up A25A-FKS RAV4, there's an added angle: the low-pressure fuel pump was recalled for failing and causing stumbling, stalling, and multi-cylinder misfires, so a P0300 on those years deserves a fuel-pressure check. Expect a rough idle, a stumble under load, and a flashing light in the worst cases.

Most likely causes on this model

  1. Worn spark plugs

Overdue iridium plugs are the cheapest and most common misfire cause on any RAV4.

  2. Aging ignition coils

Denso coil-on-plug units weaken with age and can misfire across cylinders.

  3. Failing fuel pump (2019+ A25A)

The recalled low-pressure pump on newer RAV4s can starve the engine and trigger P0300 with stalling.

  4. Vacuum or PCV leak

A cracked hose leans all cylinders and reads as random misfire.

  5. 2AZ-FE oil fouling

Oil consumption on the early four can foul plugs and cause intermittent misfires.

What it costs on a RAV4

On older RAV4s, plugs and coils are moderate and easy to reach on the four-cylinder, while the V6's rear bank adds labor under the intake. On a 2019-plus RAV4, first confirm whether the fuel-pump recall applies — that repair may be covered by Toyota rather than out of pocket. Diagnose before swapping parts.

Fixing it

Check for open recalls by VIN on any 2019-2020 RAV4 with P0300 and stalling before buying parts, since the low-pressure fuel pump may be replaced free. On older models, start with plugs and coils and move a suspect coil to another cylinder to see if the miss follows.
