What this code means
The engine computer periodically tests each oxygen sensor to make sure it still reacts quickly to changes in the exhaust. P0159 means the post-catalyst sensor on bank 2 responded, but too slowly to pass that test. Downstream sensors naturally read steadier than upstream ones — the catalytic converter smooths out the mixture swings — but there is still a minimum responsiveness the computer expects, and an aging sensor gradually falls below it. Slow response is the classic signature of a worn-out or lightly contaminated sensor, which is why this code, more than its low-voltage or no-activity siblings, usually ends in a straightforward sensor replacement. An exhaust leak near the sensor or degraded wiring can occasionally mimic it.
