The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor measures intake-manifold pressure, which tells the computer how hard the engine is working so it can set the right fuel and timing. P0107 means the MAP signal is reading too low (or shorted to ground). The usual causes are a failed sensor or a wiring/connector fault. Because the computer relies on this for fueling, a bad MAP reading can cause rough running, poor power, and bad fuel economy.

How to fix P0107

Easy — basic tools, most owners can do this

  1. Check the MAP sensor connector

    Unplug the connector and inspect for corrosion, pushed-out terminals, or a broken locking tab letting it back off the sensor. Reseat it firmly — an intermittent connection reading as a dead-low signal is a common and free fix.

  2. Verify the 5-volt reference supply

    With the key on, backprobe or probe the connector and confirm the sensor is receiving its 5-volt reference and has a good ground. If the reference is missing, the fault is upstream in the harness or shared with other sensors on the same 5V circuit — not the MAP itself.

  3. Inspect the signal wire for a short to ground

    Trace the harness from the sensor looking for chafe points where the signal wire could touch bare metal, especially near brackets and the engine lifting points. A grounded signal wire pegs the reading at zero exactly as this code describes.

  4. Replace the MAP sensor

    If the sensor has power, ground, and an intact signal wire but still outputs nothing, the sensor has failed internally. Swapping it takes minutes on most engines; clear the code and confirm the key-on reading now shows roughly atmospheric pressure.

DIY or shop? Reseating the connector and swapping the sensor are genuinely easy DIY, and a basic multimeter handles the 5-volt check with a wiring diagram in hand. Go to a shop if the 5-volt reference is dead — that circuit often feeds several sensors, and finding where a shared reference shorted out is fiddly diagnostic work. Don't drive far with the code active, since bad MAP data can mean poor running and wasted fuel.
