Usually drivable short-term. The main effects are rich running and wasted fuel rather than breakdown risk, though prolonged rich operation isn't good for the catalytic converter. It's a quick, inexpensive diagnosis — worth handling within days rather than months.
What this code means
P0103 means the mass-airflow sensor's signal is pegged higher than the engine computer considers possible — reporting more airflow than the engine could actually be swallowing at that moment. Since the fuel calculation starts from this number, an exaggerated reading pushes the engine rich: more fuel than the real airflow justifies. The usual causes are electrical — a wire shorted to voltage, a chafed harness, a corroded connector — or a failing sensor whose element has drifted. Contamination can also do it; residue from over-oiled aftermarket air filters coating the sensing element is a well-known real-world culprit. Unlike the generic P0100, this code tells you the direction of the fault (stuck high), which narrows the diagnosis usefully.
