What this code means
Once the engine warms up, the upstream oxygen sensor on Bank 1 (before the catalytic converter, cylinder-1 side) should be switching rich-lean several times a second. P0134 means the computer sees no useful signal at all — the voltage just sits flat, as if nobody is home. That points to a dead sensor, an open circuit (broken wire, unplugged or corroded connector), or a sensor that never reaches operating temperature because its built-in heater has failed. A large exhaust leak upstream of the sensor can occasionally mimic it. With no upstream signal, the computer abandons closed-loop fuel control on that bank and runs fixed fuel values, so fuel economy and emissions suffer even though the car usually still drives normally.
