You can generally keep driving with P0130 in the short term — the computer falls back on safe default fueling, so the car still runs. Expect somewhat worse fuel economy until it is fixed, and do not put it off indefinitely: prolonged rich running from bad fuel control can shorten the life of the catalytic converter, which is a far more expensive part.
What this code means
P0130 is the general circuit fault for the upstream oxygen sensor on Bank 1 — the sensor mounted before the catalytic converter, on the side of the engine that contains cylinder 1 (on an inline four-cylinder, that is the only bank). This sensor tells the computer moment-to-moment whether the exhaust is rich or lean so it can constantly trim the fuel mixture. The code sets when the sensor's signal falls outside the expected range or behaves in a way the computer cannot use — it is the catch-all version of the more specific low-voltage, high-voltage, slow-response, and no-activity codes. A worn-out sensor is the most common cause, but damaged wiring, a corroded connector, or an exhaust leak near the sensor can produce the same fault. Because this sensor drives fuel control, the computer may fall back on preset fuel values while the code is active, which costs some fuel economy.
