P0562 on a Ram 1500
System Voltage Low
5.7L HEMI V8 and 3.6L Pentastar V6
What P0562 usually means on a 1500
P0562 means the PCM measured system voltage below the normal range on the Ram 1500. The usual causes are a weak battery, a failing alternator, or corroded grounds and terminals, all common on a hard-working truck. These trucks also use a Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), and while a faulty power module can occasionally contribute to odd electrical faults, it is a later suspect rather than a first one. Start with a charging-system test, since the basics are far more common and much cheaper.
Most likely causes on this model
- Weak or aging battery
A battery that cannot hold voltage under load is the cheapest and most common cause to rule out.
- Failing alternator
An alternator that cannot maintain charging voltage drops system voltage low, especially under load.
- Corroded grounds or terminals
Poor connections raise resistance and drop voltage right where the PCM measures it.
- TIPM-related fault
Stated carefully: these trucks have a power module that can misbehave, but it is a later suspect after the basics test good.
What it costs on a 1500
A charging-system test is cheap or free at most shops, and a battery or alternator is a straightforward few-hundred-dollar repair. Cleaning grounds and terminals costs little beyond time. A TIPM, if it truly is the cause, is the expensive outlier and should only be considered after the battery, alternator, and grounds all check out.
1500 owners also ask
Is P0562 on my Ram the TIPM?
Usually not. The vast majority of low-voltage codes are a weak battery, a failing alternator, or a bad ground connection. Test the charging system first, and only look at the TIPM once those come back good.
Can a bad ground cause voltage codes on a work truck?
Yes. Vibration, corrosion, and added accessories can loosen or corrode ground connections, raising resistance and dropping the voltage the PCM sees. Cleaning and tightening the grounds is a cheap thing to check early.
