What P0011 usually means on a CR-V
P0011 on the CR-V means the intake cam is advanced beyond the commanded position on the VTC system. On the K24 this centers on the VTC actuator - Honda's familiar cold-start rattle part - and on the oil that drives the cam phaser. Old, low, or off-spec oil is a frequent trigger. It commonly starts as a brief startup rattle before a code sets.

- Worn VTC actuator
The K24 actuator wears and rattles cold; when it cannot hold timing it sets P0011.
- Old or low oil
The oil-driven phaser mis-times with degraded or insufficient oil.
- Stuck cam-timing oil control valve
A gummed spool valve lets the intake cam over-advance.
- Clogged OCV screen
Sludge in the oil control valve screen restricts flow to the phaser.
What it costs on a CR-V
Begin with correct-spec oil and a VTC solenoid - both affordable - before assuming the actuator. The actuator itself adds labor because it mounts on the cam sprocket. Many CR-Vs are fixed for well under a major repair by handling oil and the solenoid first.
