What this code means
The input (turbine) speed sensor measures how fast the transmission's input shaft spins — the speed coming in from the torque converter. The computer constantly compares it against engine speed and output-shaft speed to time shifts, control converter lockup, and detect slipping. P0716 means the signal exists but is erratic or implausible: it drops out momentarily, spikes, or disagrees with the other speed signals. That's a different clue from P0717 (no signal at all) — an erratic signal points toward a weak sensor, a loose connector, chafed wiring, or metal debris from worn fluid clinging to the sensor tip, rather than a completely dead circuit. Because the computer loses confidence in its shift math, harsh shifting and limp mode are common companions.
