What this code means

P0523 is the opposite electrical fault from P0522: the oil pressure sender's signal voltage is stuck above its valid range. On most sensor designs this pattern comes from an open circuit — a disconnected or corroded connector, a broken signal wire, or a sender that has failed open internally — or from the signal wire shorted to voltage. The dashboard result is often a gauge pegged at maximum or an implausibly high reading, which is a strong clue the problem is electrical, since real oil pressure that high isn't something a healthy warmed-up engine produces at idle. Even so, the standard oil-code discipline applies: with the sender circuit faulted, your real oil pressure is unmonitored, so check the oil level and confirm actual pressure hasn't been masked by the bogus reading.
