On the Explorer, P0430 means the bank-2 catalytic converter has fallen below its efficiency threshold — the same fault as P0420, just on the opposite cylinder bank. Across the V6 and V8 engines the causes and the way you chase them mirror bank 1 exactly. A P0430 on its own points at that bank's converter, downstream sensor, or an exhaust leak. Like P0420, it usually shows up on higher-mileage vehicles with no drivability complaints.

- Slow bank-2 downstream O2 sensor

- Bank-2 exhaust leak
A leak upstream of the rear sensor on that bank pulls in air and imitates a bad converter, a frequent finding on rusty older Explorers.
- Upstream misfire or rich condition on bank 2
Converter damage from unburned fuel makes the code a symptom; resolve the misfire or fueling issue or the new cat will degrade too.
