P0210
SeriousInjector Circuit/Open - Cylinder 10
Don't let the smoothness of a big engine fool you — cylinder 10's unburned fuel is still flowing into the catalytic converters, and overheating one is a very expensive failure on a V10 or V12. Repair promptly, drive gently until then, and park it if the light starts flashing.
What this code means
The engine computer sets P0210 when the electrical circuit for the cylinder 10 fuel injector reads open, shorted, or outside the expected resistance range as the injector is pulsed. Since only V10 and V12 engines have a cylinder 10, this code is limited to those vehicles — typically heavy-duty trucks, certain vans, and high-end performance or luxury cars. Remember that this is a circuit code: it points to electricity not reaching or returning from the injector properly, which is a different failure from a clogged nozzle. Check the injector's connector first for corrosion or looseness, then the harness for chafed or heat-hardened wiring — long V-engine harnesses give wires plenty of places to rub — and finally the injector's internal winding. A failed injector driver in the computer is possible but rare. The paired misfire code is P0310, and the two often set together.
Symptoms you might notice
- Cylinder 10 misfire, commonly stored with P0310
- Mildly rough idle — large engines partially mask a single dead cylinder
- Loss of power and refinement, especially under load
- Check-engine light, which may flash while misfiring
- Occasionally harder starting
What it costs to fix
Typical range: $100–$600 · about ~0.5–2 hrs of labor
| If the cause is… | Part | Labor |
|---|---|---|
| Fuel injector (single) | $50–$300 | ~0.5–2 hrs |
| Wiring / connector repair | $10–$60 | ~0.5–1.5 hrs |
Only V10 and V12 engines carry a cylinder 10, and on several of them the injectors hide beneath intake plumbing that must come off, raising labor. These figures assume common gasoline injectors — diesel V10 injectors and exotic performance parts run far higher.

Frequently asked
My scan tool shows P0210 but my car is a V6 — how?
A V6 has no cylinder 10, so a genuine P0210 shouldn't be possible. Suspect a misread, a code copied from another vehicle's session, or a glitch — clear it and re-scan. If it returns on an engine without ten cylinders, have the computer and tool checked.
How do I confirm whether the injector itself failed?
Unplug the cylinder 10 injector and measure resistance across its terminals, comparing with a neighboring injector — the values should be nearly identical. An open or badly mismatched reading means replace the injector; a normal one shifts the hunt to the connector, wiring, or computer.
Is P0210 safe to ignore for a while?
No — while the vehicle stays drivable, a continuously misfiring cylinder sends raw fuel into the catalytic converter, and converter replacement on V10/V12 vehicles is a major bill. Short gentle drives are fine; deferring the repair for weeks is not.
What should I budget for the fix?
Wiring or connector repairs are cheap. A single injector is a moderate part plus half an hour to two hours of labor, with the high end applying when intake components must come off for access — common on the large V engines this code lives on.
