What this code means
P0209 reports an electrical fault — open circuit, short, or out-of-range resistance — in the wiring and coil that fire the cylinder 9 fuel injector. Cylinder 9 only exists on V10 and V12 engines, so this is a code you'll encounter on large trucks, certain performance cars, and some luxury sedans, not on the average four- or six-cylinder. As with all injector circuit codes, the fault is electrical rather than a clog: a plugged injector still measures normal on a meter. The realistic causes are a corroded or loose connector at the injector, harness wiring chafed or heat-damaged along one of these engines' long injector harnesses, or a failed winding inside the injector itself; a bad driver in the engine computer is the rare outlier.
