What P0171 usually means on a Grand Cherokee
P0171 tells you the Grand Cherokee's PCM is piling on fuel because bank 1 keeps reading lean. On the Pentastar the usual culprit is unmetered air, a torn intake boot, a leaking PCV path, or a bad gasket, rather than a fuel-delivery shortfall. High-mileage examples with an oil-filter-housing or cooler leak can also drag trims off. Because the 3.6 is sensitive to intake leaks, a smoke test is the efficient first move.
