What this code means
U0121 means another computer on the car stopped hearing from the ABS control module over the data network. It's a communication fault, not necessarily a brake fault: the usual causes are a blown fuse or bad power feed to the ABS module, a corroded connector or ground, damaged network wiring, or — the expensive case — a failing ABS module itself. Low battery or charging voltage can also knock modules off the network and set phantom U-codes, so voltage and grounds get verified first. While communication is down, ABS and related systems (traction control, stability control) are typically disabled, meaning your base brakes work but without anti-lock assistance.
