A computer running corrupted software is unpredictable — it may drive fine, run in limp mode, or refuse to start. Keep driving to a minimum and get it diagnosed soon. If this code appeared immediately after a shop visit or programming attempt, go back to that shop first; an interrupted flash is a known cause.
What this code means
P0602 means the engine computer believes its own software is incomplete or corrupted — a programming error rather than a mechanical failure. It shows up in two very different situations: after a recent reflash, module swap, or battery/voltage event that interrupted or scrambled the programming, or out of the blue when the module's stored software degrades. As with all ECM internal codes, verify the basics first — battery voltage, charging output, grounds, and the ECM connector — because unstable power can make a healthy module fail its software check. If the electrical side is clean, the usual fix is reprogramming (reflashing) the module with the correct software, which a dealer or well-equipped shop does. A module that won't hold its programming needs replacement, the expensive outcome.

What causes a programming error code?
