What this code means
The EVAP pressure sensor (often called the fuel tank pressure sensor) measures the slight vacuum or pressure inside the fuel tank so the computer can run its leak tests. P0451 means the sensor's readings are implausible — they drift, stick, or jump around in a way that doesn't match what the computer expects, without being pegged fully low or high. Compare its siblings: P0452 is a signal stuck low, P0453 stuck high, while P0451 is the 'readings don't make sense' version. The usual cause is a failing sensor, but a kinked or blocked sensor hose, a poor connection, or even a chronically overfilled tank can also confuse the reading.
