What this code means
P0310 flags a misfire in cylinder 10 — the cylinder isn't reliably burning its air-fuel mixture. Only engines with ten or more cylinders have a cylinder 10, so this code lives exclusively on V10 and V12 engines: heavy-duty trucks and vans on one end, luxury and performance cars on the other. As with any single-cylinder misfire, the odds-on causes are that cylinder's spark plug or ignition coil, confirmed by swapping the suspect part to a neighboring cylinder and seeing whether the misfire follows. A clogged or dead injector and low compression (valve or ring trouble) are the less common, more expensive possibilities. Note that a single misfiring cylinder on a 10- or 12-cylinder engine can feel surprisingly subtle — don't let the smoothness fool you, because the unburned fuel still punishes the catalytic converter.

What engines can actually set P0310?
Only engines with at least ten cylinders — V10s and V12s. If this code shows up on a four-, six-, or eight-cylinder engine, re-scan it: you're likely looking at a scan-tool misread or a spurious code, not a real cylinder 10.
Why does the misfire feel so mild?
With ten or twelve cylinders, losing one leaves plenty of smooth power, so the shake can be barely noticeable. The damage still accumulates, though — unburned fuel from the dead cylinder overheats the catalytic converter regardless of how smooth the engine feels.
