What this code means

C0561 is a status code more than a root-cause code: it means the ABS/traction control system has switched itself off because it received a signal or condition it couldn't trust. It's almost always a consequence of another problem — a wheel speed sensor fault, invalid data from the engine computer (a misreporting throttle or brake signal is a classic source), a communication issue, or low system voltage. The essential move is to read the codes stored in the ABS module and the other modules, because the companion codes name the real culprit; C0561 just announces the shutdown. Fix the underlying fault and this code goes with it. Until then, expect ABS, traction control, and stability control to be inoperative.

Frequently asked

Can I drive with C0561?

Yes, carefully — normal braking is intact, but ABS and stability systems are disabled, so there's no electronic help in a panic stop or skid. Allow extra margin and get it diagnosed soon.

What actually causes C0561?

Usually another fault: a wheel speed sensor, a brake or throttle signal problem, bad data from the engine computer, or low voltage. C0561 is the ABS system announcing it shut down in response — the companion codes identify why.

Why does my scan show C0561 but nothing else?

Make sure the scan reads all modules, not just the engine computer — the causing code often lives in the ABS module or elsewhere, and basic code readers miss those. A full-system scan is the right tool for this one.

Will clearing C0561 turn my ABS back on?

Only until the underlying fault sets it again — usually immediately or within a drive. The system re-enables for good once the root-cause code is diagnosed and repaired.
